Everything You Need to Know About Lip Fillers
Lip fillers have become one of our most popular cosmetic treatments over the past few years. Unfortunately there’s still a stigma attached to lip filler that isn’t deserved. We’re here to tell you, you can have lip filler & still look natural!
We’re guessing you’re here as you still have questions. How long do they last? How much do they cost? Is the procedure painful?
In this post, we’ll answer all of your burning questions so you can make an informed decision.
How long does filler last in lips?
One of the most common questions we get asked is; How long lip fillers last. Typically, lip fillers last between 6 to 12 months, depending on the type of filler used, your individual metabolism, and how well you follow aftercare instructions. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers (the Galderma range) tend to last closer to the 9-12 month range. Over time, your body will gradually break down the filler, so you may require annual touch ups to keep your ideal aesthetic look
How much does 1ml of lip filler cost?
We charge $550 for lip filler. We only use premium products from the Galderma range.
What shouldn't I do after lip Fillers?
After your lip filler appointment, there are a few things you should avoid to ensure the best results and minimize the risk of complications. These include:
Avoid touching or massaging your lips for the first 24 hours to prevent infection and ensure the filler stays in place.
Don’t exercise vigorously for at least 24–48 hours, as this can cause swelling and increase the risk of bruising.
Avoid hot temperatures (e.g., saunas, hot showers) for 24 hours to prevent increased swelling.
Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours to reduce the risk of bruising.
Don’t expose your lips to direct sun for a few days, as this can lead to irritation.
Following these guidelines will help ensure that you heal well and that the results are as smooth and natural as possible.
Is 1ml of lip filler too much for the first time?
We understand many people worry that 1ml of lip filler will be over the top, especially if it’s your first time. In most cases, 1ml is a reasonable starting point, as it’s typically enough to see noticeable results without being overwhelming. However, the amount you need will depend on your natural lip size, your aesthetic goals, and how full you want your lips to appear.
If you’re unsure, you can always start with less. Our clinicians recommend starting conservatively. You can always add more filler in the future if you want a fuller look. This is why it’s so important to schedule a consultation with experienced clinicians who take the time to understand your hopes, fears & everything in between!
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip is a different kind of treatment compared to traditional lip fillers. Instead of adding volume to the lips with filler, a lip flip uses botulinum toxin (Botox) to relax the muscles around your upper lip. This creates a subtle “flip” effect, causing the lip to curl slightly outward, giving the appearance of fuller lips without adding any volume.
A lip flip at BYGOLDEN is quicker and less expensive than lip filler, but the results are more subtle and don’t last as long. It’s a great option for people who want a small enhancement or don’t want to add fullness but still want to improve the shape of their lips.
Is lip filler painful?
The lip filler procedure itself is generally not very painful, as our team use a topical numbing cream (LMX4) before injecting the filler. You may feel some mild discomfort or a sensation of pressure during the treatment, but it’s typically manageable. Some of our patients report feeling a slight stinging or pinching, but overall, it’s a relatively quick and tolerable procedure.
If you’re particularly sensitive, you can ask your our team for additional pain management options. But most people find the discomfort to be minimal, and the results are well worth it!
Are lip fillers worth getting?
Lip fillers can be an excellent investment if you want to enhance your lips, whether it’s for added volume, improved symmetry, or feel more confident in your skin. Many people feel that lip fillers are worth it because they offer a non-permanent, minimally invasive solution with little downtime.
However, like any cosmetic treatment, lip fillers come with some risks, such as swelling, bruising, or, in rare cases, infection & vascular occlusion.
If you're looking for subtle enhancement and don't want to commit to a permanent change, lip fillers can be a great option. They’re also reversible, meaning if you’re not happy with the results, you can dissolve the filler using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Do lips go back to normal after fillers?
Yes, your lips will gradually return to their natural state once the filler breaks down. As the filler is made from hyaluronic acid, your body naturally absorbs it over time. Depending on your metabolism, this can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months.
However, after multiple treatments, you may notice that your lips retain a slightly fuller appearance even after the filler has dissipated, as repeated injections can stimulate collagen production and cause a subtle long-term enhancement.
Our final thoughts
Lip fillers can be a fantastic way to enhance your lips and boost your confidence, but it’s important to be fully informed before making a decision. From the cost and duration to aftercare & everything in between!
