Pigmentation treatment - Melbourne

Understanding Pigmentation

Pigmentation refers to changes in the colour of your skin due to varying levels of melanin production. Hyper-pigmentation, where areas of skin become darker, is common and often caused by sun exposure, aging, and hormonal changes. Conversely, hypo-pigmentation results in lighter skin patches. Identifying the type of pigmentation is important for choosing the most effective laser treatment.

What are the different types of pigmentation

Epidermal Pigmentation

Freckles Small, brownish spots on the skin's surface caused by UV exposure.

Solar Lentigos Brown patches are commonly seen in individuals over 40 due to prolonged sun exposure.

Cafe-au-Lait Macules Light to dark brown birthmarks that can vary in size and colour over time.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation Dark patches that remain after skin injuries, such as burns or cuts.

Dermal Pigmentation

Moles (Nevus) are Common skin growths that are darker than the surrounding skin. While mostly harmless, consultation with a dermatologist is recommended.

Hori’s Macules are Blue-grey or brown-grey patches on the cheeks, usually seen in middle-aged women of Asian decent.

Nevus of Ota Dark blue-grey or brown-grey patches around the eyes and cheeks, often appearing later in life.

Mixed Pigmentation Mixed pigmentation refers to the presence of more than one type of pigmentation within a single area of the skin. This can manifest as a combination of different colors or shades due to various factors.

Melasma (Chloasma) Dark patches on the face are caused by hormonal changes, often exacerbated by UV exposure.

Alma Harmony Pro

The Alma Harmony Pro offers versatile solutions for various skin concerns, including pigmentation. Our advanced laser technology can target both superficial and deeper pigmentation effectively, leaving your skin looking clearer and more even.

ClearLift

ClearLift, known as the "Lunchtime face-lift laser," provides non-ablative treatment for skin rejuvenation and pigmentation. It works by stimulating collagen production while targeting pigmented areas, making it ideal for addressing both surface and deeper skin issues. It also has the added benefit of reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles as it tightens the skin!

DYE VL

Our DYE VL laser excels in treating vascular and pigmented lesions. It effectively targets melanin and hemoglobin in the skin, reducing the appearance of sun spots, age spots, and other pigmentation issues. Our DYE VL is also fantastic for treating spider veins, and rosacea among many other common skin concerns.

What can I expect during and after treatment at BYGOLDEN

Laser treatments for pigmentation are generally quick and non-invasive, though some very minor discomfort may be felt. The level of discomfort varies based on the type of pigmentation and the laser used. We would rate this a 2/10 on the pain scale, with most clients tolerating the treatment extremely well! Our DYE VL also has a cooled head, which acts to keep your skin cool during the treatment.

How many treatments will I need to treat my Pigmentation?

The number of laser sessions required depends on the severity of the pigmentation and the depth of the pigment. On average, patients may need three to six treatments to achieve optimal results. A consultation will help determine the exact number of sessions needed for your specific condition.

What is the post-treatment care following Pigmentation treatment?

To ensure the best results and prevent pigmentation from reoccurring, follow these aftercare tips:

Apply Post-Treatment Moisturiser Immediately after treatment, use a recommended moisturiser to soothe the skin.

Avoid Sun Exposure Protect your skin from UV radiation to prevent new pigmentation from forming. We love Airyday sunscreen, as all of their products offer 50+ SPF, smell fantastic & sit well on your skin.

Use Gentle Cleansers Opt for non-abrasive, mild cleansers to avoid irritating the treated area. We recommend & good quality cleaners whilst your skin may be tender post-treatment. Aspect Dr’s range of AHA/BHA cleansers are non-abrasive & provide a great deep clean to the surface layers of your skin.

Limit Makeup and Exercise Avoid makeup for the first few days and reduce strenuous exercise to prevent overheating the skin.
