Everything you need to know about Microneedling
Microneedling is one of the most talked-about skin treatments, and for good reason. At BYGOLDEN, we’ve seen firsthand how transformative it can be for a wide range of skin concerns. Below, we’ve answered the most common questions our clients ask about microneedling to help you decide if this treatment is right for you.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates your body’s natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production. The result? Firmer, smoother, and more radiant skin.
Why Is Microneedling so good?
Microneedling works on a cellular level, which means results are natural and long-lasting. It doesn’t rely on synthetic ingredients or fillers, instead, it enhances your skin’s own regeneration process. It’s one of the few treatments that improves skin texture, tone, and firmness all at once.
What can Microneedling treat?
Microneedling is incredibly versatile and can treat a range of skin concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne scars and other scarring
Enlarged pores
Pigmentation and sun damage
Stretch marks
Uneven skin tone and texture
How much does Microneedling cost?
At BYGOLDEN, our microneedling treatments are competitively priced:
Single Treatment: $350
Package of 3 Treatments: $950
We generally recommend a course of treatments for best results, especially if you’re treating scarring or more advanced skin concerns. Packages for Microneedling treatments are more cost effective & can be found here.
Does Microneedling hurt?
Microneedling may sound intimidating, but most of our clients find it very tolerable. We apply a medical-grade numbing cream before the treatment to ensure your comfort. You might feel a light scratching sensation, but nothing overly painful. Many clients say it feels similar to a light exfoliation. (We’d rate it 3/10 on a pain scale)
How much downtime will I have with Microneedling?
Downtime is minimal. Right after your treatment, your skin may look red, similar to a mild sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours. You might also experience some slight dryness or flaking for a few days. Most people return to normal activities within a day or two. Our clinicians will provide you aftercare instructions, along with 2 x take home skin pen care kits, which are applied to help keep a protective barrier over your skin.
Microneedling vs Anti-Wrinkle Injections: Which one is better?
They serve different purposes. Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily relax muscle movement to smooth dynamic lines (like crow’s feet or frown lines), whereas microneedling improves overall skin quality, texture, tone, and firmness. For many of our clients, combining both gives the best aesthetic outcome.
Is Microneedling safe for all skin types?
Yes! Microneedling is safe for most skin types and tones, including darker complexions. It’s also suitable for sensitive skin when performed by trained professionals—like our experienced team at BYGOLDEN.
How soon will I see results from microneedling?
Most people notice a visible glow within a few days of their first treatment. However, collagen production takes time, so optimal results usually appear after 4–6 weeks. A series of treatments will deliver more significant, longer-lasting improvements.
How often should I get Microneedling?
We typically recommend treatments every 4–6 weeks, depending on your skin goals. For general rejuvenation, a course of 3–4 sessions may be enough. If you're targeting scarring or deeper concerns, you may benefit from 6 or more treatments.
Can Microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. Microneedling pairs beautifully with other skin therapies like LED Light Therapy, chemical peels, and professional skincare to boost results. It can also complement anti-wrinkle or dermal filler treatments as part of a holistic skin plan.
Is Microneedling safe?
Yes, when performed by trained professionals (like our team at BYGOLDEN), microneedling is a very safe procedure. We use a sterile, medical-grade device, known as the Skin Pen and adhere to strict hygiene protocols. It’s minimally invasive with low risk of complications.
Can I wear makeup after Microneedling?
It’s best to avoid makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment to allow your skin to heal and prevent irritation. After that, you can resume your normal routine, though we always recommend mineral makeup and sun protection.
Who shouldn’t have Microneedling?
Microneedling may not be suitable if you:
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have active acne or skin infections
Are prone to keloid scarring
Are taking certain medications (like blood thinners or acne meds)
We will always conduct a full consultation to ensure it’s right for you.
What other options are available if I don’t want the downtime?
We have a number of energy based devices that are non-ablative, meaning you can return to normal life immediately post treatment. Our most popular device is the Alma Harmony Pro, which treats over 72 indications from; Skin, Active Acne, Fine lines & wrinkles, Pigment, Rosacea & Vascular Lesions.
