Our team at BYGOLDEN is dedicated to providing the most advanced and effective skincare treatments. Among our services is skin needling, a popular procedure that can significantly improve your skin’s overall appearance. We often get asked questions relating to Micro-needling, so if you’re interested read on, as we cover some commonly asked questions.
What is Skin Needling?
Skin needling, also known as micro-needling or collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate your skin. Skin needling treatment involves using a device equipped with fine needles to create thousands of tiny punctures on the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing processes, promoting collagen and elastin production, two essential components for youthful, resilient skin. We use the world’s most advanced skin-needling system. The “Skin Pen”.
How Does Skin Needling Work?
The process begins with our clinicians thoroughly cleansing your skin, followed by the application of a numbing cream to minimise discomfort. (If required) During the treatment, our clinicians systematically guide the pen over your skin’s surface. As it moves, the device creates controlled micro-injuries, which trigger your body’s repair mechanisms.
This stimulation of collagen production helps to improve your skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance your overall skin tone. The procedure typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. (face 30 minutes, face, neck & decolletage 45 minutes)
What Does Skin Needling Do?
Our skin needling treatment offers a range of benefits for various skin concerns:
Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles By stimulating collagen production, skin needling helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a more youthful appearance.
Improves Skin Texture Skin needling can improve skin texture by reducing the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and other skin irregularities.
Enhances Skin Tone Skin needling can help even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more glowy complexion.
Increases Absorption of Skincare Products The micro-channels created by the needling process enhance the absorption of topical skincare products, making them more effective.
Who is Skin Needling For?
Skin needling is suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns. It is an excellent option if you are looking to address:
Fine Lines and Wrinkles are Ideal for those looking to reduce the signs of ageing. We also offer Clearlift laser treatments, which are an exceptional option for those looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, without the mild trauma of skin needling.
Acne Scarring is Effective for treating scars and uneven texture left by acne. We also offer other treatments such as TCA peels for the reduction of Acne scarring.
Stretch Marks Can improve the appearance of stretch marks on various parts of the body.
Overall Skin Rejuvenation Perfect for those seeking to enhance skin texture and tone.
However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain skin conditions, such as active acne or severe eczema. If you are unsure, you can always book a full-face consultation with our team, who will help determine if skin needling is right for you.
Can Skin Needling Cause Breakouts?
Skin needling can occasionally lead to a temporary increase in breakouts, particularly if you have oily or acne-prone skin. This is because the micro-injuries created during the procedure can cause the skin to purge impurities and debris. However, these breakouts are usually short-lived and resolve as the skin heals and adjusts. To minimise this risk, it’s important to follow our post-treatment care instructions and maintain a consistent skincare routine. Your Post-treatment instructions are sent via email following your appointment.
Can Skin Needling Cause Pigmentation?
While skin needling is generally safe and effective, there is a potential risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), especially if you have darker skin tones. This occurs when the skin produces excess melanin in response to inflammation. To mitigate this risk, it’s crucial to avoid sun exposure and follow a comprehensive skincare regimen that includes products to reduce pigmentation. Our BYGOLDEN team will provide personalised advice to help prevent any potential pigmentation issues.
Does Skin Needling Hurt?
Most of our patients find skin needling tolerable. If pain is a concern, we can use a topical numbing cream to assist in pain management.
During the treatment, you might experience some mild discomfort or a tingling sensation as the needles move across your skin. However, the procedure is generally well-tolerated, and any discomfort typically subsides shortly after the treatment. We would rate the pain a 4/10, however, we understand everyone has a different pain tolerance. Further to this, we would recommend undertaking your treatment during a quiet period in your schedule, as you will be red for the first 3-6 hours post-treatment.
You will see a significant improvement in signs that you have had the treatment the following day, however, you may still be a little red! In the following days, you may start to peel (don’t worry, this is a good thing!) Over the coming days, the signs will fade & you’ll be back to your glowy self!
How Often Should You Get Skin Needling?
The frequency of skin needling treatments depends on your skin’s needs and the specific concerns being addressed. Generally, we recommend undergoing skin needling every 4 to 6 weeks. This allows sufficient time for your skin to heal and produce new collagen before the next session. Our skincare professionals at BYGOLDEN will tailor a treatment plan based on your individual skin goals and condition.
